All eyes of international industry are on Kenya’s leading building and construction show The Big 5 Construct Kenyawhich will take place from 9 to 11 November 2022 at the Sarit Expo Center in Nairobi.

As the number of African cities has doubled in just over three decades, from 3,300 to 7,600, the cumulative population has increased by around 500 million people. East Africa is at the forefront of this progress, with the most recent industry reports showing an urban growth rate of 4.5%.

As cities and urban populations grow, larger-scale construction projects will likewise increase, attracting even greater interest from international players. According to the ABiQ Kenya Construction Projects Market Reportconstruction industry spending is expected to rise more than 13% from $2.601 billion in 2022

to $2.944 billion in 2023, with a significant increase expected within engineering services seen as a positive indicator of future employment prospects.

For the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), this industry expansion represents an unmissable opportunity for “Made in Italy” building technologies and materials to The Big 5 Construct Kenya. ITA Director in Addis Ababa, Riccardo Zucconi, says the show will give Italian companies access to quality buyers from sub-Saharan countries and boost Italian brand awareness on the continent.

The Big 5 Construct Kenya will open up opportunities to organize face-to-face business-to-business meetings, which will help strengthen bilateral business relations between local market players and Italian technology producers and material suppliers in the construction sector. We believe this will be a fantastic opportunity for visitors and exhibitors to familiarize themselves with the high quality of Italian building products and technologies, which will facilitate new business relationships with their Kenyan counterparts,” Zucconi said.

In its role as ‘country of honour’ at the show, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) supports 62 Italian exhibitors, including 39 building materials companies and 23 construction machinery companies. The exhibition space will be filled with the best Italian solutions, presenting a wide variety of products ranging from murals to door handles, from electric generators to earthmoving machinery.

Other international markets participating in the show are UAE, Turkey, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Germany, India, UK, Finland, Egypt, Greece, Ethiopia, Uganda, Spain, South Africa, Poland and Malaysia.

Zucconi adds: “The Italian Trade Agency (ITA), with the essential assistance of the Italian Embassy and other Italian institutions in Nairobi, is committed to improving the positive bilateral economic relations between Italy and Kenya, to promote trade and investment, while raising awareness of the superior quality of “Made in Italy”. We are ready to help Kenyan and Italian companies to link their demand and supply in all possible ways and we look forward to paving the way for future collaboration in The Big 5 Construct Kenya.”
