Australian homeowners and contractors demand answers from Sydney builder
A Sydney builder is missing, leaving homeowners and unpaid contractors devastated and desperate for answers.
Owner Dharmesh Shah said his home should have been built in 56 weeks, according to his deal with builder Amarjit Khakh, who runs Ajit Constructions in Sydney.
But that was not the case.

“Eighteen months since the contract was signed, 13 months when the slab was completed and in the last six to eight months no one has come here,” Shah said. A topical matter.
Shah said his mistake was to trust the builder.
“I’m paying almost $2,000 a month just in mortgage payments and then almost $800 a week in rent…and there’s no solution,” he said.

“So far I’ve paid close to $80,000…and I’ll have to shell out even more.
“I’m going to spend more to fix this. No builder wants to touch this (house).”
Khakh traveled to Europe for a vacation with his family, leaving guests with no roof over their heads.

Calls to the number listed on the Ajit Constructions website do not connect and the company office has been taken over by the landlord for non-payment of rent.
Neeraj is another angry owner.
“After (the) 26th of August, the works stopped for no reason, nothing at all and I finally realized that they were asking for more money; asking me to give them advances outside the contract if I want my project is moving,” Neeraj said.
Neeraj said he paid, desperate for construction to continue.
“I paid them up to $105,000, at one point borrowing money from friends, family, everyone, and the frame still wasn’t ready,” he said. he declares.
“I’ve paid $387,292 so far.”
Neeraj fears he won’t recover.
“I have just under $500,000 left to finish the house, but when I go out to ask for quotes and tenders to fix it, I got over $800,000,” Neeraj said.
Owner Manish is also upset because his west Sydney duplex hasn’t seen a trader since September last year.
“I paid him a total of $140,000 and I paid almost $12,000 to vendors…that’s my life’s savings that we invested,” Manish said.
And all Manish has to show is a concrete slab and a brick wall.
The Department of Fair Trade said A topical matter he is currently investigating Ajit Constructions, but cannot comment further.
Despite complaints from victims in A topical matter story, there is still no public warning available on the Fair Trading website, which means there is nothing stopping Ajit Constructions from taking on new clients.
Master Builders Association New South Wales executive director Brian Seidler said builders have a legal obligation to complete a contract once it is signed.
But he added that the construction industry has struggled lately, which may have had an impact on construction.
“The so-called perfect storm for the industry was again significantly affected by significant absenteeism,” Seidler said.
“The fact that we have recorded 100 days of rain in the first six months of this year means that jobs are totally disjointed and cannot start.
“Linked to rising labor and material costs, all of these things play on a contractor who may have been locked into fixed price contracts.
However, he also said that was no excuse.
“The builder cannot begin work until the insurance is in place. That insurance covers consumers exactly for this situation that arises,” Seidler said.
It’s not just clients who claim to have been left behind, but also contractors, like Martin Irvine of IRV Concreting.
“$50,000 was kind of like our float, it kept us going, it paid for salaries and the general running of the business,” Irvine said.
“Without it, we’ve been scratching week to week for probably 12 months now, as I’ve had it since August 21, so we’ve been struggling ever since.”
