Listen: AgriFocus – Revenue’s new VAT guidance
In this episode Francess McDonnell is joined by Marty Murphy, head of tax with Ifac, to examine what the new guidance published by Revenue on VAT refunds will mean for farmers.
Unregistered farmers have been able to claim back VAT on certain “qualifying expenditure” under the VAT Refund Order since 1972.
According to Murphy the new guidance provides a level of clarity for farmers on what is eligible for VAT refunds.
On the podcast he said throughout the latest guidance from Revenue there is a word that “keeps popping up and that is concrete”.
“Anything that is made of concrete they are very much willing to allow – as long as it is made of concrete and stuck in the ground and cannot be moveable it is mentioned as being refundable within the document.
“Revenue has now told us in this document what they will be allowing and won’t be allowing.
“Their key point is they don’t want you to be able to move it – the more stuck in the ground it is, the more likely it is to be allowable,” he added.
The AgriFocus podcast series takes a closer look at some of the key issues that directly impact on farmers, rural communities and the agri-sector.
